Rehabilitation

Many clients are referred to our studio by the medical profession for Pilates exercises and for rehabilitation.

Patients with back pain are given exercises to strengthen their core and back muscles to better protect their backs and hopefully eliminate their need for surgery. We elongate the spine to decompress the vertebrae and we work in all the ranges of spinal movement in order to nourish the discs, joints and muscles surrounding the spine. With fresh nutrients and blood, healing is enhanced and accelerated. We work on flexibility of the spine and on strengthening from the inside out; from the core, including the pelvic floor, to the superficial musculature. These exercise programmes are created individually to cater to each patient’s needs and specific injury or surgery.

We assist with rehabilitation for a wide range of injuries including:

  • Scoliosis, shoulder injuries and rotator cuff injuries;
  • Post operative spinal surgery;
  • Degeneration of discs to vertebrae replacements;
  • Fusions and stents in the spine.
  • pubis symphysis derangement, c-section, and diastasis recti.
  • Hip and knee replacements.
  • Ankle and foot injuries.

We also work with patients with high cholesterol and hypertensive clients; clients who have had heart surgery; asthmatics, client who are obese, and those with osteoporosis. The reformer offers resistance during exercises that stimulate the bones and this can stem the progression of osteoporosis.

Referrals come from doctors, surgeons, specialists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, advertising, and by word of mouth.
